SaltarSmart

SaltarSmart is a web browser toolbar and extension that may be classified as potentially unwanted software. The primary purpose of the web extension is to control the user's browser by modifying the search provider and redirecting web searches to a specific search engine partner in order to generate revenue through sponsored advertising. This toolbar is typically installed as part of a bundled offer within a 3rd-party distribution. The functionality of SaltarSmart includes changing the web browser's default home page to an affiliate search portal, modifying the browser's search provider, built-in search box, and address bar, as well as altering the 'new tab' functionality to launch the modified search portal page. Additionally, it adds alternative error pages, DNS error, and 'page not found' functionality, and includes features designed to protect the search and home page settings. It is also capable of injecting advertising in the form of context ads, links, and pop-ups.
