About The Document Foundation

The Document Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting open-source software. It was established by members of the OpenOffice.org community to oversee the development and management of LibreOffice, a fork of OpenOffice.org. The foundation's primary objective is to create a vendor-independent office suite with robust ODF support, without imposing any copyright assignment requirements. The decision to form The Document Foundation was influenced by concerns that Oracle Corporation, following its acquisition of Sun Microsystems, might cease the development of OpenOffice.org.
