Khaled Mardam-Bey, the creator and developer of mIRC, was driven to develop the software due to his observations that the initial IRC clients for Windows were lacking some fundamental IRC features. Motivated by the challenge and the positive reception of his work, he dedicated himself to further developing mIRC. The substantial popularity of the software eventually enabled him to establish a sustainable livelihood from it.
