LogMeIn offers remote access products that utilize a proprietary remote desktop protocol transmitted via SSL. The web portal requires an ActiveX plugin for Internet Explorer or a LogMeIn extension for Firefox or Safari. If those options are not available, Java is required to run a Java program, and if that fails, a "screen-shot-based HTML remote control" is used as a fallback. The service connects the remote desktop and the local computer using SSL over TCP or UDP and employs NAT traversal techniques to establish peer-to-peer connectivity when possible.
