The U3 Launchpad (LaunchU3.exe) is a Windows program manager that was developed as part of the U3 smart drive technology, a collaboration between SanDisk and M-Systems. It was designed to automatically start upon insertion of a U3 enabled device, which included specific USB flash drives adhering to the U3 specification, commonly referred to as "U3 smart drives". The U3 Launchpad functioned similarly to the Windows OS start menu and provided control over program installation, as well as the ability to store customizations and settings on the flash drive. Applications created in compliance with U3 specifications were permitted to write files or registry information to the host computer, with the requirement to remove this information upon ejecting the flash drive.
