File Type Assistant is a utility that is commonly included with third-party software installations, often through modified installers of free open-source software using the InstallIQ downloader. The modified installer may bundle known products such as Free File Viewer, Final Media Player, BitZipper, and Music Oasis with adware toolbars and other unwanted software. As stated in the End User License Agreement (EULA), the software installation process is managed by InstallIQ, which downloads the necessary files and scans the computer for compatibility with the operating system and other installed software. Users are then presented with a welcome screen and given the option to accept or decline the installation of the software. Additionally, users may be offered partner software, changes to browser settings, and installation of desktop icons, including third-party offers. The software and any partner software may include advertisements within the application. By accessing the sites and downloading the content, users grant permission for promotional information, advertisements, and offers for third-party products or services to be displayed. The advertising may include various forms of content, and the frequency, timing, and extent of the advertising changes are determined at the discretion of the software provider. Users also grant permission for the collection and use of certain aggregate information in accordance with the software's privacy policy.
