LyricsPod

LyricsPod is a browser extension that has been reported to exhibit behaviors indicative of malware activity. Users have reported instances of the software taking control of web browsers to enact search redirection and inject unwanted advertising. This software has been observed to be bundled with other software offerings, often installed alongside third-party applications and potentially through exploiting vulnerabilities in web browsers. LyricsPod is promoted to users as an add-on meant to display lyrics while watching YouTube videos, but has been found to engage in browser hijacking to display advertising. This activity can manifest in the form of injecting contextual link ads, banner ads, pop-ups, and pop-overs on webpages not associated with the software. Additionally, the software may hijack known ad serving sites. It is noted that LyricsPod may function as a Browser Helper Object in Internet Explorer. While it is listed in the Windows Add/Remove Programs and comes with an uninstaller, some users have reported difficulty in completely removing it. For effective removal, users may require the assistance of dedicated anti-malware products.
