UnfriendMonkey is an adware application that operates as a browser toolbar and web extension. The primary function of the web extension is to seize control of the user's browser, altering the search provider and diverting web searches to affiliated search engines with which the publisher has a revenue arrangement. The toolbar is designed to prompt users to click on sponsored advertisements through search by performing several behaviors, including but not limited to: - Changing the default home page of the web browser to the affiliated search portal. - Modifying the browser's search provider, built-in search box, and address bar. - Adjusting the 'new tab' functionality to launch the modified search portal page. - Adding alternative error pages, DNS error, and 'page not found' functionality. - Enhancing functionality to safeguard the search and home page settings. - Accessing the HTML of all visited pages and capturing URLs and search terms. - Injecting advertising in the form of context ads, pop-ups, and pop-unders in many cases.
