PHPNuke Toolbar

The 'PHPNuke Community Toolbar' is a browser extension developed by Conduit that seamlessly integrates with popular web browsers such as Google Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. This ad-supported program is designed to showcase advertisements within the toolbar, modify the browser's homepage and search settings, and capture web search traffic while also collecting and aggregating usage data and statistics. The toolbar is commonly distributed as part of bundled software packages developed by third-party developers, serving as a means to monetize both free and paid software. During installation, users may be prompted to modify their homepage and search pages, although these options are often pre-selected by default and may be overlooked by the user. Should the software be uninstalled, users would need to manually revert their settings back to their original state. According to the End-User License Agreement (EULA), Conduit has the ability to automatically download and install remote updates, as well as collect and store information about the user's web browsing activities locally on the user's PC. This data is then leveraged to suggest additional services and deliver more targeted advertising to the user. The EULA states, "By Using a Conduit Software you may enable Conduit to access, use and collect a variety of information, both personal and non-personal, regarding your Internet Browser, your browsing habits, and information about your computer."
