The Avira SearchFree Toolbar plus Web Protection is an internet browser toolbar that is automatically updated with the Ask.com search engine. It is installed through bundled software and the default settings will automatically install the toolbar as soon as the host bundler software is installed on your PC. Upon installation, the software will set and maintain Ask.com as the default search provider, as well as set the browser homepage and new tabs page to Ask.com. The software also includes a background process that monitors for changes and will reset the search and homepages back to Ask.com if any changes are detected. This toolbar is commonly installed with various versions of the Free Avira AntiVirus software and is distributed through APN, LLC. Additionally, it is important to note that other browser add-on products from different companies may also bundle and offer Ask search tools during installation, resulting in the Ask default homepage or new tab page being changed if not declined at the time of installation.
