Meteoroids

Meteoroids is a browser extension developed by Injekt LLC that displays advertisements while running in the background of the user's web browser. Typically, this ad-supported program is bundled by a third-party download manager along with potentially unwanted software offers, aiming to monetize installations. Once activated, Meteoroids delivers various types of ads, including banners, text hyperlinks, inline text ads, and transitional ads to the browser. Notably, the displayed ads are not associated with or endorsed by the visited websites and may replace legitimate ads on web pages. Some of these advertisements are categorized as malvertising, as they may promote products that could potentially harm the user's PC, such as additional software downloads, adware, bundlers, price comparison offers, and search ads. Additionally, Meteoroids communicates with a remote server to track the user's browsing habits, URLs, and domains to update its advertising content accordingly. It is important to note that as stated in the program's End User License Agreement (EULA), the ad content may be tailored based on the user's browsing queries, stored information, or other data collected during their use of the software. Furthermore, during installation, the user may be presented with optional third-party offers, such as a search toolbar, for which they have the choice to accept or skip.
